The Downey Symphonic Society, Inc. was founded in 1948 by a group of public-spirited citizens, in order to bring good symphonic music to the Greater Downey Community.  The Symphony provides the Educational Outreach Progam in the Arts for the Downey Unified School District called "MUSIC IN THE SCHOOLS".

Message from the Music Director

Welcome to our 52nd season! As always, the Downey Symphony Orchestra promises to bring you all the inspirational music and sensational performances that the people of Los Angeles County deserve. We will start the year off with a bang, bringing in one of Los Angeles’ most sought after soloists, Roger Wilkie. In keeping with our mission to either commission or premiere a new work each season, Mr. Wilkie will perform “Generations” for Violin and Orchestra by local composer, Daniel James Chan. This world premiere performance, accompanied by the beautiful music of Aaron Copland and Anton Dvorak, is something you do not want to miss!

Last year’s Downey Symphony Young Artist Competition brought our attention to the remarkably talented clarinetist, Jose Gonzales; he will amaze you with his skills in our January concert. The season will conclude with a special performance by my good friend, Elizabeth Pitcairn, a world-class violin virtuoso who has earned a reputation as one of America’s most beloved and unique soloists. She performs in partnership with one of the world’s most legendary instruments, the Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius of 1720, said to have inspired the Academy award-winning film The Red Violin. As you can imagine, you are in for quite a treat with this concert.
