About the Competition
One of the primary goals of the Downey Symphony Orchestra, since its founding in 1958, has been the encouragement of young musicians. During our upcoming season, the DSO will hold a Young Artist Competition for "up and coming stars" of ages 25 and under. The winner of the contest will receive a $500 cash prize for performing with the DSO during the 2014-15 season. The competition will be open to the following instruments: Piano, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, harp, and marimba.
Preliminary Round
Mailed-in CD recording judged by DSO Artistic Personnel Committee. CD must include all, or at least a major portion, of the desired work (with or without accompaniment).
Final Round
Live audition in front of prestigious panel of professional musicians to be held at Schoenfeld Hall at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music on November 10, 2013 from 11:00am-3:00pm.
Repertoire
Any standard work of 40 minutes or less that is available for solo instrument and orchestra.
