One of the primary goals of the Downey Symphony Orchestra, since its founding in 1958, has been the encouragement of young musicians. During the 2010-11 season, the DSO will hold a Young Artist Competition for "up and coming stars" of ages 25 and under. The winner of the contest will receive a $500 cash prize for performing with the DSO during the 2011-12 season.
The competition will be open to the following instruments: Piano, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, harp, and marimba.
Mailed-in CD recording judged by DSO artistic personnel committee. CD must include all, or at least a major portion, of the desired work (with or without accompaniment).
Live audition in front of prestigious panel of professional musicians to be held at the MacDonald Recital Hall at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music in December, 2010 (specific date TBD)
Any standard work of 45 minutes or less that is available for solo instrument and orchestra
